Google Nexus Q Ports

All evidence suggests Google would rather just forget the Nexus Q even happened. A year removed from its announcement, the company has said little about the orb streamer, and has even abandoned support with its own apps. None of this is particularly surprising—but a new development suggests Google might try its hand at a streamer once again.

A new filing with the FCC, referred to as media player H2G2-42, has popped up with a nice little reference to Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. Unfortunately, Google requested diagrams and photos of the device remain confidential, so it’s unclear what the streamer looks like and what purpose it will serve. The filing only reveals that the device supports Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, has a USB port and gets its power from a separate power supply.

Google was mum on hardware at this year’s I/O, but that doesn’t mean the company isn’t working on anything new. In addition to the possibility of a white Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 successor, it appears a Nexus Q follow up is indeed on the way. Whether Google has managed to create something people will actually want this time remains to be seen.
